• Tasting Notes:

Intense aromas of black plum, blueberry, black currant, and dried rose petals, accentuated by mineral undertones. The creamy, satiny texture is framed by fine-grained tannins. The freshness and soft glow of acidity create a subtle tension with dark fruit flavors, savory herbs, espresso, and cocoa. A delicate dark chocolate bitterness lingers on the finish.

• Barrel Selection:

19 months in new French oak

• Growing Notes:

Abundant spring rains, nearly double the annual average, saturated the soil and provided ample water for the growing season. The first signs of budbreak were observed in the vineyard
on March 27th; a full 15 days later than usual. This delay led to later bloom and veraison. However, warmer temperatures toward the end of summer accelerated the fruit’s development
and maturity. Picking began on September 10th, a couple of days earlier than average. The harvest lasted four weeks, and activity in the cellar proceeded at a calm and steady pace.

• Winemaking Notes:

2019 Opus One Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 78%, Merlot 8%, Petit Verdot 6%, Cabernet Franc 6%, and Malbec 2%; Skin Contact for 22 days. Aged 19 months in new French oak barrels.

• About The Winery:

Opus One founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Legendary proprietor of Château Mouton Rothschild, and renowned Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. By combining the
great winemaking traditions and innovations of both families. The founders’ singular goal was to create an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley.

The estate vineyards of Opus One, comprised of four parcels, sit in the western portion of the famed Oakville AVA. Two parcels, totaling 100 acres, are within the renowned To Kalon Vineyard.  These complement by the combined 70 acres of the Ballestra and River parcels, which envelop the winery.

In the vineyards, hand-harvesting and traditional approaches get taken where they work.  When modern techniques benefit the winegrowing process, they are researched, evaluated and integrated into practice.

• Vineyard:

On the other hand four meticulously hedged vineyard parcels further form the Opus One estate where the vineyard team cultivates five traditional Bordeaux grape varieties with experience, passion and dedication. In addition essential human touch brings forth the characteristics of each vintage through a balance of delicate coaxing and gentle restraint.

As farmers and artisans, deeply concerned with their collective future, Opus One recognizes that sustainability practices benefit the winery, neighbors and customers. The culture and internal practices at Opus One reflect their commitment to conservation and responsible consumption in the areas of energy, water, waste management, transportation, purchasing, and food.

Opus One has been certified as a green winery as part of the Napa Valley Vintners- Napa Green Initiative, and is implementing more than 100 favorable and environmentally friendly procedures.
