Growing Notes:
Everything offered from Rangeland is sustainably managed and grown right there in the Adelaida. They are a family-owned business and all contribute.
At Rangeland, they are committed to creating wine, food, and experiences for the guests that reflect the natural beauty and bounty of the land. Although they are not from agricultural backgrounds, the family has spent 20 years learning the rudiments of ranching, winemaking and land stewardship by learning from others and simply doing it themselves. Their hands are in each part of the process — picking grapes, herding cattle, bottling wine and actively conserving the natural beauty of the ranch.
Rangeland Team strictly limits the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers in the vineyard, using sheep herd as mowers and fertilizers instead of tractors and herbicides when they can. The cattle herd is rotated carefully from pasture to pasture, leaving the soils intact and the landscape rich in wildlife, even in drier years.
While they’ve had the assistance of many expert advisors in viticulture, winemaking and livestock management as well as the helpful hands of friends and neighbors, they retain personal control and daily involvement in the operation of the ranch.
-
Winemaking Notes:
The winemaker is deeply involved in all aspects of the process from viticulture to winemaking and livestock management.
-
About The Winery:
Rangeland Wines have only owned Adelaida Springs Ranch since 2000. However it has been home to humans for thousands of years. from Native American acorn gatherers to mission-era herders and finally to American miners and homesteaders in the 19th century. The ranch is adjacent to the historic Klau and Buena Vista Mines, which were the commercial hub of the area as early as 1870.
Previous owners include Marshall Sawyer. Whose father Frank Sawyer was the house physician and general manager of the then-grand Hotel De Paso Robles spa. At the turn of the century. One of the owners’ long term goals is to publish information about local homesteaders. Further documenting the title and occupying family history of each of the parcels on the ranch.
They are aware of at least six homestead sites on Adelaida Springs Ranch. Nevertheless including owner names like Pool, Kuhlman, Botts and Andrews.
